Junior Graphic Design Portfolio Show Overview





















This week was the opening for the Junior Portfolio Show. Twelve students set up a table with their professional portfolio book which included ten of their best design projects. Each student also put up a large poster created by themselves above their table. Their portolios are being reviewed by full and part time faculty. In addition, they will be required, on April 28th, to show their portfolio at the 9th Annual AIGA Portfolio Review, held at Chapman University

Sophomore Graphic Design Portfolio Show Overview





















Monday, March 19, was the opening for the first ever Sophomore Portfolio Show. Each student displayed a portfolio book that included an artist statement and five projects of their choice that had been produced after joining the Graphic Design Program. Above every portfolio book was a personalized poster of the designer's name that showed their work or expressed their unique personality. These portfolios were reviewed by full and part time faculty and the students will be evaluated to see if the students will be allowed to continue in the program.

Sophomore Graphic Design Portfolio Show


















Chapman University's Guggenheim Gallery will be hosting its first Sophomore Graphic Design BFA Portfolio Show, "Hello My Name Is...", through March 19-23 from 12-5pm. The show opens on Monday, March 19 at 5:30pm and will be featuring portfolios by students Elizabeth Wright, Will Schoenfeld, Diana Goldberg, Rachel Becker, Taylor Peck, Sheryl Alway, Wes Eramo, Zac Oransky, Chris Stiles, Spencer Thordarson, Michael Regan, Casey Wyman, Amanda DeFrancis, Michele Jonas, Nicole Pawloski, Grace Lavery, Katie Kland, Amanda Norris, Ryley Schlachter, Gracie Wilson, Valerie Rustad, Deena Edwards, Kathryn Ferons, Victoria Wong, Zach Guenther, Mike Gembarski, Liz Mule, Candace Larson, Margeaux Pawell.

Visual Speakers Series Presents Brian Bress







































Come listen to Video Artist, Brian Bress, tomorrow Wednesday, March 14 at 7pm in Moulton room 213.

His video, "Under Cover" (2007), was included in the landmark exhibition California Video (2008) at the Getty Museum, Los Angeles and the accompyanying catalog, California Video: Artists and Histories. In the past two years, Bress has exhibited his work in the Museum of Contemporary Art (North Miami, Fl); the Institute of Contemporary ARt (Philadelphia, PA); Art house (Austin, TX) and many more.

Junior Graphic Design Portfolio Show: Rogue Designers











































Chapman University's Guggenheim Gallery will be hosting its Spring Junior Graphic Design BFA Portfolio Show, Rogue Designers, through March 26-30 from 12-5pm. Alumni Creates Display Type

















BFA in Graphic Design 2008 alumni, Darren McArdel, has been working on a display type over the past couple of months that is mainly inspired by old detroit/gas cans/route 66, as well as some ghost lettering on old brick buildings. Here is a glimpse of the font!

Visual Speakers Series Presents Sarah Strauss















Come listen to architect, Sarah Strauss, next week on Monday, March 12 at 7pm in Moulton room 213.

Sarah Strauss received her Master of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture in 2002, and her B.A. in Studio Art, Art History and Chemistry from Duke University. Sarah co-founded Big prototype in 2004 to pursue interests in architecture, product, and furniture design. Dedicated to an ongoing interest in the history of ornament and pattern in the built world, Sarah teaches at the graduate and undergraduate level at Pratt Institute. Her scholarly work encourages the playful exploration of digital tools with an emphasis on the translation to physical building. In 2010, Strauss teamed up with Lia Halloran to form Collider, an installation art project to continue conversations across disciplines. Collider has become a
vehicle for questioning the limits of their respective disciplines and an opportunity for exuberant production.

Town & Gown Presentation





















Professor Eric Chimenti and Professor Claudine Jaenichen present The Impact of Design: From the Olympics to Medicine on March 1, 2013 at Town & Gown's Lunch at the Forum series.


Town and Gown is a non-profit support group for Chapman University. They offer opportunities for members to enjoy the campus, meet faculty, attend academic programs and participate in social and cultural functions. It serves as a vital link between the university and the community by sharing information about Chapman and offering academic and social programs to on and off campus individuals and groups.

Graphic Design Club Hosts Baby Shower













Graphic Design Club threw a surprise baby shower for Professor Claudine Jaenichen on leap day . The students decorated one of the classrooms, brought desserts and snacks, and waited quietly for her arrival. When she came into the class everyone yelled "Surprise" and "Congratulations!" Claudine was so happy to celebrate this special moment in her life with her students, faculty, and alumni. After the initial shock of everyone surprising her, people settled down and played baby shower games and decorated onesies.
