Homecoming: Art Student Speakers

Homecoming and Family Weekend is just around the corner. This weekend offers a full line-up of exciting events for students, families, alumni and the community.

 

Wilkinson College is holding a Student Research Fair on Saturday, October 15th. Come to Argyros Forum Rm 206 to hear two of Chapman's art students speak to you about their creative process. 

Anton Warkentin, BFA Graphic Design 2012, will be talking about his experience serving in an international humanitarian art internship.

Martha Cowley, BA Art 2013, will be discussing her exploration through anthropomorphic Characters in Contemporary Culture.

Dr. Leopardi, a Chapman Art Professor, will also be speaking October 14th at 1:30pm

Student Art Showcase: Subvert the Paradigm

Chapman University's Guggenheim Gallery will be hosting a fall BA Art Showcase, Subvert the Paradigm, on October 24 - 27 from 12 - 5pm. The show opens on October 24th at 5:30pm and will be featuring work by students Sarah Jones, Tyler Park, Mari Takeyama and Koreena Papke.

The Guggenheim Gallery is located on the South side of campus and is part of Moulton Hall.

Chapman University's Guggenheim Gallery will be hosting a fall BA Art Showcase, Post Aesthetic Stress, on October 31 -  November 4 from 12 - 5pm. The show opens on October 31st at 5:30pm and will be featuring work by students Robbie Kociela, Cassandra Kottman, and Jonathan Toto.

Chapman University is hosting the first West-Coast exhibition showcasing the history of one of the most successful type houses to use photo technology in commercial typography and lettering is showcasing original work at


Chapman's Guggenheim Gallery

January 24 - March 2, 2012

Opening Reception:
Monday, February 6, 2012 - 5:30- 9:00pm

The exhibition will include photo lettering archives and typefaces as well as the materials and methods used in graphic design practice during the “Cold Type” or Phototypesetting Era of the 1970s. The show will document the physical materiality of the process and the use of such items as waxers, stats, grease pencils, T-squares, Rapidiograph pens, Letraset, Amberlith, rubber cement, proportion wheels, pica rulers, Bestine, illustration board, Rubylith, Mylar, Pantone chips and more.

Come examine the mechanical nature of this period of the history of graphic design and the physical craftsmanship involved in the process.

Junior Graphic Design Showcase: Imprint

Chapman University's Guggenheim Gallery will be hosting its fall Junior Graphic Design Showcase, Imprint, on October 24 - 28 from 12 - 5pm. The show opens on October 24th at 5:30pm and will be featuring work by students Danielle Hebert, Marian Huang, Kelly Lonergan, and Katelyn Bianchini.

Visual Arts Speaker: Neville Kristoffer

Art Historian, Neville Kristoffer, focuses his research on the international aspects of the arts in the early modern period. In his lecture this Wednesday, October 12th he will discuss the relationship between Germany, France and Italy and the eclectic mode of thought that was seen as a progressive path to rich, new ideas by academics, architectural theorists, and architects.

Pacific Standard Time at Chapman

Chapman University, the Art Department, and Guggenheim Gallery is partnering with Pacific Standard Time. It's an unprecedented collaboration of of more than 60 cultural institutions across Southern California celebrating art in LA from from 1945 to 1980.
