Chapman and House Industries Event

Chapman University is hosting the first West-Coast exhibition showcasing the history of one of the most successful type houses to use photo technology in commercial typography and lettering is showcasing original work at

The exhibition will include photo lettering archives and typefaces as well as the materials and methods used in graphic design practice during the “Cold Type” or Phototypesetting Era of the 1970s. The show will document the physical materiality of the process and the use of such items as waxers, stats, grease pencils, T-squares, Rapidiograph pens, Letraset, Amberlith, rubber cement, proportion wheels, pica rulers, Bestine, illustration board, Rubylith, Mylar, Pantone chips and more.

Come examine the mechanical nature of this period of the history of graphic design and the physical craftsmanship involved in the process.
